Run from Augusta out toward Belgrade Lakes and back, through the heart of Maine's capital region. The full marathon is Boston certified and USATF sanctioned — and there's no time limit on any distance. We want you to reach your finish line, however long it takes. Four distances, one summer morning, and the kind of community welcome the big-city races lost a long time ago.

Race Morning Schedule

All races start together — Marathon, Half, 10K, and 5K7:00 AM

Every distance starts as one. Line up at 7:00 AM and run Augusta together — the field splits onto its course as the morning unfolds.

Why Augusta

Race day starts at Camp Chamberlain, 23 Blue Star Ave, Augusta, hosted by the Army National Guard. This is your start and finish line — plan to arrive with enough time for parking and a warm-up before the horn goes off.

Packet pickup is the day before, on Saturday, July 11, so plan to grab your bib and timing chip in advance rather than race morning. This keeps race-day morning simple: show up, warm up, run.

The full marathon runs out along Route 11/27 toward Belgrade Lakes and back — a scenic, rolling-hills out-and-back route. It's Boston qualifying certified, so if you're chasing a BQ time, this course has a track record.

Not sure you're ready? Our 30 Days Out race day guide covers exactly what to do — and what not to do — in the final month. And our Bangor Marathon runner survey results show what finishers actually think of a MESA race. We publish every number.

Finish both the Augusta and Waterville races — any combination of full and half distances across the two races qualifies. If you're doing both, this is one more reason to.

Race-Day Basics

Parking is available near the start, and there's a vendor area at the finish line for participants and guests. If you're dropping bottles for aid stations, get them to the operations tent at the start before the cutoff — check mesa-maine.org for the exact time.

Personal bottles welcome. Running with your own fluids or nutrition? Drop your labeled bottles at the operations tent by the start line before 6:00 AM, and we'll set them out on a dedicated table at every water station for you to grab on the course.

Make a weekend of it. A finish-line vendor area welcomes runners and their guests, and there's plenty of nearby parking, affordable lodging, and dining — enough to make race weekend a destination for the whole family. See the full course map and elevation on Ride with GPS, and follow along on Facebook at Maine Endurance Sports Alliance.

There's still time — race day is July 12

Be Part of Race Day

A great race isn't just the runners. It's the businesses whose names line the course and the volunteers handing out water at mile 8. There's still room for both — and both are how this race happens.

Volunteers Needed

Staff a Water Station

Our runners told us straight: the water stations are what they remember most about a MESA race. Spend a morning cheering on runners, handing out cups, and being the friendly face at mile 8 — no experience needed, just energy and a few hours. It's the most fun you can have at a race without running it.

Sponsors Welcome

Put Your Business on the Course

Hundreds of runners and their families come to Augusta for race weekend — and they remember who made it possible. Sponsoring the Augusta Marathon puts your name in front of an engaged local audience, supports a Maine 501(c)3 nonprofit, and ties your business to a healthy, community-first event. Packages are still open.

The Bottom Line

The biggest stress-reducer for race day is handling logistics the day before: pick up your packet Saturday, know your start location, and give yourself time Sunday morning to settle in before the start. From there, it's just you and the course.
